The Winterhaven historic district in northeast Tucson was developed in the late 1940s to 1960s and has 265 ranch style homes located at Fort Lowell and Country Club roads.
Homes in the neighborhood average nearly 1,800 square feet on lots of up to one-quarter of an acre. Most homes were originally built with car ports. Some still utilize the car ports and other car ports have been enclosed to garages.
Unlike most neighborhoods in Tucson, Winterhaven's wide streets are lined with a lot of non-native trees, as the community's original plans were inspired by a Midwestern town with its lush green lawns. To support its park-like vision, Winterhaven has a private water supply with three wells that supply irrigation and household water for its residents.
Tucson schools that serve Winterhaven include Cragin Elementary, Doolin Middle and Catalina High.
