The Fox Tucson Theatre opened in 1930! It's been a source of entertainment in downtown Tucson, Arizona for almost 100 years! When it opened, the downtown streets were closed and a huge street party was thrown. The theatre closed in 1974 due to competition from other theatres and movie houses scattered throughout the town. In the late 1990s, however, following a two-year negotiation process, the non-profit Fox Tucson Theatre Foundation was able to purchase the building in 1999 for $250,000. Further rehabilitation occurred over the next 6 years due to the theatre's tireless director to the tune of over $14M.
