Among its numerous amenities, Christopher Columbus Park, on Tucson’s West Side, holds both Silverbell Lake, where you can fish for an array of fish, which varies by season, and is planted regularly by the Arizona Department of Fish and Game. Anglers can fish from the bank or from their non-gasoline powered small boat, or visit Archer Lake, where they can fly their RC airplane or float their UMX boat.
This park, formerly named Silverbell Park, was named after Christopher Columbus in 1990. The Tucson chapter of the Knights of Columbus initiated the renaming effort in anticipation of the international celebration of the 500 year anniversary of Columbus’ arrival in the New World.
One of the primary attractions at Christopher Columbus Park, aside from the lakes, is the one acre dog park. The dog park is located at 4600 N. Silverbell Road. Operating hours are from 6 in the morning until 10 at night, although the park is closed for maintenance on Wednesdays from 9 am to 1 pm. Dog owners will be happy to know that the park is divided into large dog and small dog areas. The dog park is lighted and includes a ramada to get out of the Tucson sun. The park also includes a Fido fountain, so your pup doesn’t have to get thirsty. Please note that due to requests from patrons, smoking is not allowed in the dog park.
Christopher Columbus Park includes a Little League baseball field, playgrounds, picnic tables and shade ramadas. Benches and drinking fountains are scattered about the park as well.

There are a number of West Tucson neighborhoods close to Christopher Columbus Park. Among them are: On the west side of I-10, El Camino del Cerro Ranchettes, Park View Estates, Siete Acres, Rancho Agua Dulce and Rancho El Moraga. Right on or just East of I-10 are the Gibson, Melody Lane Estates, and Flowing Wells neighborhoods.
