Featuring a taproom with a rotating display of unique and classic motorcycles and cars, along with a dozen or so tap craft beers and occasional craft sodas, Moto Sonora also offers a beer garden with beautiful murals painted on the outside walls. They even offer an off-leash pet area so Fido can have some fun while you enjoy your craft brew.
The idea for MotoSonora Brewing Company came during a 2010 overland trip through South Africa and Botswana when Tucson brothers Jeff and Jeremy DeConcini spent hours fireside in the bush debating the merits of the vehicles driven, the countries visited, and the preferred beers tasted along the way. Whether it was an IPA, an export stout, or a schwartzbier (German for black beer), it was indisputable that the beers were as integral to the overland experience as were the Land Rovers and motorcycles. Several years, thousands of beers, and many poor vehicular choices later, they were finally able to bring in Eric Thu and Tomme Arthur and create MotoSonora Brewing Company. The DeConcini brothers’ hometown of Tucson is a cultural and culinary, as well as overland crossroads, where the adventurous can access the Arizona Trail or be within striking distance of the Camino Del Diablo and Baja California. The road trip themed taproom is reminiscent of the Carrera Panamericana and Baja 1000 races, among others, and is a place to show off your Austin Healy or your Toyota FJ40 while drinking one of their world-class beers.
The name MotoSonora, was chosen as a tribute to the golden age of cross country road racing and to reflect the adventurous beginnings of the brewery in Botswana in 2010. By combining the name Sonora (used in the Sonoran Desert as well as the Mexican state of Sonora) with the Italian prefix “Moto” (which is also a nod to the founders’ Italian heritage), they created a new name that symbolizes the speed and elegance of overland racing and adventure. Using an Italian name to take Old World beer styles to the southwest perfectly captured the spirit of this brewery.
Their taproom is also available for parties, filming, book signings or whatever. Out in the small front parking lot (they have more parking down the alley in back) there is a resident food truck with limited hours.
